The Map Page
Ecological Mapping is an effective way to convey complex spatial information about biodiversity. Maps enable citizens and scientists to synthesize information about habitat distributions, vegetation patterns, rare species occurrences, critical migration routes, land ownership boundaries, and other important attributes across the regional landscape. The California North Coastal Basin (CNCB), within the Klamath Ecoregion, is a geographically, culturally and biologically defined region. The CNCB falls within the California Floristic Province but is also considered part of the Pacific Northwest coastal temperate rain forest region that extends northward into Alaska. The CNCB, a hydrologic region of extreme northwest California, is comprised of all westward-draining watersheds of the northern Coast Ranges between Bodega Bay and Redwood Creek and is here defined to include coastal marine terraces extending northward to Oregon. Major CNCB watersheds include the Russian, Eel, and Mad Rivers, as well as Humboldt Bay and Bodega Bay.
We produce maps that display the complex patterns of interrelationships found in natural systems...our paramaters are biocentric in nature and reflect the information that our community needs to effectively plan for biodiversity conservation.
LEGACY-The Landscape Connection supports local conservation efforts by providing a regional perspective on biodiversity issues in northwestern California. By supplying GIS services, LEGACY-TLC provides community groups with scientific support. Scientific data gathered from numerous sources, including our current and past projects, is compiled in LEGACY’s Spatial Analysis and GIS Mapping Laboratory. This information is then incorporated into a regional Geographic Information System (GIS). Data layers are used in landscape-level models to identify reserve components. GIS maps are produced to illustrate the positions of these components in relation to each other, as well as to watershed boundaries, riparian areas, roads, and urban centers. This information allows us to create a sound vision for the future by identifying appropriate management strategies to implement site-specific conservation and land-use practices.
LEGACY-The Landscape Connection provides cartographic and informational resources to a variety of organizations, planning agencies, and interested individuals. We maintain an experienced staff of professional and dedicated GIS technicians and analysts.
Much of the contracting work that LEGACY takes on allows us to build our GIS database, scientific expertise, and cooperation with key groups in the California North Coastal Basin.
